IGA WORKSHOP Saturday 20th March, 2010
Qualified IGA Geologists will host an IGA members workshop:
ROCK / MINERAL IDENTIFICATION WORKSHOP
VENUE: Room G01, UCD School of Geological Sciences, Belfield, Dublin 4.
TIME: 10.00am (Lunch available for purchase afterwards on campus)
Informal hands-on workshop to brush-up on your rocks and minerals identification skills (no previous knowledge required). A large variety of rocks, minerals and tests will be on display. Members are encouraged to bring along their own samples for identification or display, and younger members are especially encouraged.
This workshop is in preparation for a mineral hunting fieldtrip the following weekend (Saturday 27th March) to the Glendalough / Glendasan Valley old mine workings in the Wicklow Hills. (details on field trip page)
IGA LECTURE Wednesday, 31st March, 2010
Barry Long (retired GSI) will present a lecture entitled:
DIAMOND GEOLOGY AN OVERVIEW
VENUE: Geological Survey of Ireland, Haddington Road, Beggars Bush, Dublin 4.
TIME: 8.00pm , tea/coffee from 7.30pm
The focus will be on geology* including why the search for diamonds has touched Ireland.
* There will be no coverage of marketing, business, politics, terrorism, smuggling, synthetic manufacture, industrial uses, the jewellery trade, or extra terrestrial origins.
