Grants
One of the IGA’s main purposes is to promote and support Geological learning across Ireland. One of the ways we strive to do this is by offering grants to students to support their degrees, be these Undergraduates of Postgraduates.
We are very lucky this year to have support from CRH allowing us to offer two grants under the following titles:
IGA-CRH Undergraduate Fieldtrip and Mapping Grant
&
IGA-CRH Postgraduate Research and Travel Grant
IGA-CRH Undergraduate Field Fund
Those eligible to apply for this grant are Undergraduate student studying planning a geological field mapping project as part of their undergraduate degree, as well as undergraduates planning to attend an IGA field trip.
This grant is available for the following purposes:
- To cover costs ensued from conducting a geological field mapping project.
- To cover costs associated with attending an IGA field trip
The closing date for applications is the 10th of May 2013 at 9am.
IGA-CRH Postgraduate Travel & Research Grant
Those eligible to apply for this grant are Postgraduate student studying a geology related discipline within Ireland.
This grant is available for the following purposes:
- Travel to engage in research relevant to their project and to collect material/information for incorporation in their own theses by:
- Fieldwork.
- Visits to libraries or other collections of research materials to supplement research already undertaken.
- Visits to laboratories to use resources unavailable in their own institution.
- Travel to participate in academic meetings to present of the results of their research.
- Participation in a short course or workshop related to you course.
The closing date for applications is the 3rd of May 2013 at 9am.
Completed applications must be e-mailed to Emma Lyne at grants@geology.ie in .pdf format.
This application form must be accompanied by a short proposal detailing how you intend to spend the grant, i.e. reason for travel/need for course, breakdown of costs associated with the research, travel or course as well as the benefit being awarded this grant will have on you research.
All students awarded a grant will be obliged to participate in a conference held later in the year hosted by the IGA and give a short presentation on the benefit and/or results of the work carried out using this grant.
